Documents for an international private flight

On a private flight the checks are quicker, but the documents are the same as on an airline. Here is what each passenger needs depending on the destination, and what to do if a minor is traveling without both parents.

Updated

Flights within Argentina

A domestic flight involves no immigration or customs, but every passenger must carry valid ID. For Argentine citizens, the DNI card or the digitally issued light-blue DNI booklet is enough; handwritten versions are no longer accepted. Foreign passengers travel with their passport.

Minors need their DNI too. The travel authorization checked by immigration applies to leaving the country; if a minor is flying within Argentina without their parents, ask us beforehand and we will tell you what to bring.

International flights: DNI or passport

On an international flight, immigration and customs are handled at our San Fernando base, before take-off and when you land on the way back, without the queues of a commercial terminal. At the destination, they are done at the arrival airport.

Check expiry dates before booking, since renewing a document takes time. The document must be the original and in good condition: a receipt for a DNI in process is not valid for travel. What you need depends on the destination and your nationality:

  • Mercosur and associated countries. Argentine citizens can travel with a valid DNI to Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.
  • Rest of the world. A valid passport is required, and it is worth carrying your DNI too. Depending on the destination and nationality, a visa or electronic travel authorization may be needed, and some countries require a minimum remaining passport validity.
  • Foreign passengers. They generally travel with their passport and any visa required for their nationality. Some citizens of the region can use their national ID card.

Minors traveling without both parents

A minor under 18 leaving the country with only one parent, with another adult or alone needs a travel authorization from the parent or parents who are not traveling. Without it, immigration can refuse departure, on a private flight too.

The minor also travels with a valid DNI or passport and a document proving the relationship: a birth certificate, the family book or a DNI showing both parents' details, in original or certified copy. If a parent has died, the death certificate is also required. If the minor is traveling alone, bring the details of the person meeting them at the destination as well.

If the minor is traveling with both parents, no authorization is needed, but the proof of relationship is. One detail that is often overlooked: a laminated birth certificate is no longer valid.

How to get the travel authorization

The authorization can cover a single trip or be broad, valid for several trips. If a parent cannot or will not give consent, a court authorization is required. Arrange it in good time: without it, the minor will not be able to leave the country.

It is signed by the father, the mother or both, depending on who is not traveling, always in person before an authorized official. Today it can be done in these ways:

  • At the National Immigration Office (Migraciones), by appointment, at its headquarters or a regional office.
  • Before a notary, by public deed or with certified signatures, legalized by the College of Notaries. In the City of Buenos Aires, if the notary records it electronically, no paper copy is needed.
  • For Argentine minors, at RENAPER, the national registry, together with the child's passport or separately if they already have a valid one. It is a broad authorization to travel alone to any country until age 18 or until the passport expires, and it is recorded digitally.
  • Before a judge, a justice of the peace or the Civil Registry, with the corresponding legalization.
  • From abroad, before an Argentine consul.

What to send us before the flight

Our operations team works around the clock and confirms the requirements of each destination before every flight. If you have questions about a specific case, message us on WhatsApp or by email.

To keep the day of the flight smooth, send us each passenger's details in advance and have at hand:

  • A valid DNI or passport for each passenger, in original.
  • A visa or electronic authorization, if the destination requires one.
  • Proof of relationship for each minor and, where applicable, their travel authorization.
  • Health certificates, if your pet is coming along.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fly private to Uruguay with just my DNI?

Yes, if you are an Argentine citizen and your DNI is valid: Uruguay is a Mercosur member. It must be the DNI card or the digital light-blue booklet. Foreign passengers travel with the document Uruguay requires for their nationality.

Can a minor travel abroad with only one parent?

Yes, with a travel authorization from the parent who is not traveling, a valid DNI or passport and a document proving the relationship, such as a birth certificate.

Can the travel authorization for minors be done online?

Not entirely: parents must appear in person before immigration, a notary, RENAPER or another authorized official. What is digital is the record: authorizations issued by RENAPER, or recorded electronically by a notary, are available to immigration control.

Do I need a passport for a private flight within Argentina?

No. Argentine citizens only need a valid DNI, and there is no immigration or customs. Foreign passengers travel with their passport.

Where are immigration checks done on a private flight?

At our base at San Fernando International Airport, before take-off and when you land on the way back; at the destination, at the arrival airport. Without the queues of a commercial terminal.
